My Story

Hi, I’m the inventor behind Boogie Shade, my third invention and one I’m deeply passionate about. The idea grew out of a need. I live in a mid-century modern home filled with natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows in the living and dining rooms. While beautiful, that same sunlight created a problem I couldn’t ignore it was fading my collection of lava lamps.

A Lifelong Passion

Lava lamps aren’t just décor to me — they’re works of art, nostalgia, and joy. Over the years, I’ve curated a collection of more than 25 lamps, each with their own character, color, and flow. Beyond their beauty, lava lamps are also known for their calming, therapeutic qualities. Their soothing movement has even been shown to help symptoms in individuals with ADHD by promoting relaxation and focus — something I personally value and appreciate.

The Problem I Solved

Natural sunlight is beautiful, but UV rays are powerful. I realized that without protection, my lamps — treasured pieces of design history — would lose their brilliance in a short period of time. I needed a solution that not only preserved their vibrant colors but also complemented their iconic look.

From the official Lava® website, sunlight is mentioned in two places within the FAQ section. First, under general setup instructions: “Plug your LAVA lamp into a power outlet and keep it away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.” Second, under the question “What is the best way to care for a Lava Lamp?” the guidance is: “Do not place the lamp in direct sunlight, as this will cause the colors to fade.”

The Solution: Boogie Shade

That’s when Boogie Shade was born. Designed specifically with collectors in mind, it provides 100% UV protection while enhancing the aesthetic of each lamp. More than just practical, Boogie Shade is stylish — allowing lamps to remain as bold and brilliant tomorrow as they are today.
